The Preston Associates (TPA), a leading international Executive Coaching firm with offices in London, Paris, Berlin, New York, Hong Kong and Beijing, are proud to welcome new associate Rainer Schmitz, to our team of expert coaches.
Rainer is based between Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong and runs TPA’s presence in Asia. Rainer started coaching executives in 2006, while residing in Asia. He has coached senior executives and executive teams in a variety of sectors including FMCG, chemicals, drinks companies, the automotive industry and within financial services.
Most recently Rainer has held senior positions in Asia including Director of Human Resources China for Mondelez International (formerly Kraft foods) where he was responsible for 7,000 employees, the integration of a major business following an acquisition and a rapid growth business. He then became the Director of Global Talent Management for Bacardi. Here Rainer was responsible for Global Leadership Development and the creating of a Global Coaching Roadmap, while supporting the Asia Pacific region.
Rainer has always focused on being a real business partner who enjoys being held to accounts for driving the performance of individuals and teams across the business he has been responsible for. His coaching style is clear, to the point, impactful and empathetic while he maintains the ability to constructively challenge his clients. He has a high degree of integrity, gentleness, excellent listening skills combined with a straight forward approach, high discipline and strong intuition and the ability to accurately read the situation in the room. Rainer also incorporates his strong interest in the spiritualism he has found in Buddhist philosophy adding a different dimension to helping people perform at their best both personally and professionally within an organisational context.

Before becoming an executive coach, Cathy’s career was focused on marketing and communications in the highly competitive consumer sector. She has over two decades of experience working with people from diverse cultures and professional backgrounds, having lived in China, Canada and the USA, as well as working with three world renowned organizations operating in China/Asia. Cathy, therefore has a deep understanding of communication, cultural impact, the complex relationship between an organization’s global headquarters and its regional markets, as well as the unique leadership challenges executives are facing in a fast-developing market. Her passion for life-long learning and a genuine interest in helping others to live a fulfilling life add depth to her coaching practice. As an executive coach, her style is business-focused, empathetic yet challenging with a focus on the balanced development of her client’s mind-set and skill-set.
Prior to being trained as a certified coach, Catherine worked in a number of key finance functions for over 15 years in the United States, Hong Kong and China for multi-national companies including Microsoft, Covanta Energy and Epcos. Her latest commercial role was the Chief Financial Officer of a Siemens financial services company in Beijing. During her 5 years as CFO, she oversaw significant organisational changes whilst successfully leading her teams to consistently achieve stretched annual targets, and supported an eight-fold increase of staff number to more than 100 across China. Catherine understands first-hand the benefits that coaching brings in increasing leadership performance and is driven by helping other leaders succeed.
